Kanuhura

Villa hosts are there to enhance your luxury getaway, to exceed your expectations by providing personalised, efficient and responsive service with impeccable attention to detail. They are there to ensure the villas are in tip-top shape at all times and to anticipate the need of their esteemed guests. In short, they are there to ensure that all guests - from families and couples to solo adventurers - are constantly given the highest standards of service.

The villa hosts are an integral part of the Kanuhura guest experience. That’s why they undergo a strict interview process and training programme (which lasts between 3 and 5 weeks), where their abilities and qualifications are determined. Only the friendliest applicants, able to speak fluent English (and in many cases, who can speak at least one other language), have extensive experience in the hospitality industry, excellent communication skills and outgoing natures are given the chance to be a villa host at Kanuhura. The hotel also prioritizes those who are committed, hardworking and know how to handle guests in the best possible ways in every situation.

It is also required for Kanuhura’s villa hosts to be able to work long hours, know how to work a computer, be self-starters and well-groomed and presentable at all times. Apart from ensuring each moment of a guest’s stay is exceptional, the villa host is also responsible for reporting any health or safety hazards, suggesting anything that may enhance the guest experience and assisting the Front Office Department with daily operations, check-ins, check-outs and upselling.

Ultimately, it takes a very special person to be a villa host at Kanuhura, just like the resort’s very own Villa Host Leader, Talib Mammadov.

Read on to find out more about this wonderful villa host, what a day at Kanuhura typically looks like for him and the incredible value a villa host can bring to your holiday in the Maldives:

Introducing: Talib Mammadov

Known for his outgoing personality, dependable nature and his dedication to his job and interactions with guests, it’s little wonder that Talib Mammadov has been recognised and nominated often amongst his peers (he was recently awarded Supervisor of the Quarter) and that his name often appears in positive reviews (such as those found on TripAdvisor).

Having joined the hotel in December 2016, Talib quickly became fabled for his fabulous personality, his punctuality and his hardworking nature. It took him less than two years to be promoted to Villa Host Leader, which officially happened in June 2018. Hailing from Azerbaijan, Talib speaks three languages, Russian, Turkish and English, making him a real asset at Kanuhura and a firm favourite amongst the Russian and Turkish guests.

Being promoted was a big deal for Talib and he was hugely taken aback for being recognised for his exceptional service. He is also grateful for the opportunity to prove himself further with extra responsibilities that allow him closer involvement with management duties. These duties include maintaining the duty schedule, preparing reports (such as guest profile updates and feedback and villa host allocation) which helps him to develop his leadership skills. He is also in a better position to help others develop their skills and be a part of their personal growth which he finds fulfilling.

Early mornings

A typical day for Talib starts at sunrise when he wakes up in order to get ready in time for the daily briefing at 08:00. During this meeting, all the villa hosts and villa host leaders discuss matters for the day. They talk about the day’s arrivals and departures, any villa moves, excursions, important events (such as birthdays or anniversaries), guest profiles, incident reports, special requests, theme nights, kids activities and rainy day activities, if applicable.

After the meeting, Talib touches base with his guests, welcomes them to breakfast and discusses the day’s plans. One of the things that Talib loves most about his job is that it allows him to engage with guests from around the world. As a true “people’s person” there’s nothing he enjoys more than to interact with his guests and get to know them better (which also helps him to provide better, more tailored services to them).

Once he has spoken with his guests, he coordinates with housekeeping to ensure the rooms are cleaned and in order. He also books any spa treatments, activities or excursions for guests and assists with new arrivals and departures. After this, he catches up on emails, reservations and admin.

Sun-filled afternoons

Guests find the best ways to enjoy their afternoons in paradise. Whether it’s by lying on the beach with a book (and a cocktail) or diving with sea turtles in the blue waters of Lhaviyani Atoll.

While they are enjoying their activities, Talib loves to catch up with his colleagues or repeat guests over a cup of coffee or enjoy some beach activities with the kids. Gorgeous afternoons, when he is not needed by his guests, present perfect opportunities for him to embrace the wonders of the destination. The afternoons are also usually when training sessions occur. Talib relishes opportunities to constantly grow and learn.
Balmy evenings

In the late afternoons, Talib typically welcomes his guests back from excursions (such as the sunset fishing trip or a champagne cruise). He loves to get their feedback on the experience, catch up with them about their day, check any requests or concerns and forward any message on to the appropriate departments. He then helps guests settle in for a nice evening. After he has done this, he confirms any plans or transfers for the following day.

As his guests head to dinner, Talib checks in with them and that their dietary requirements are attended to. While the guests eat, he, along with a housekeeping attendant, provides the turndown service in the villa and organises the guest’s belongings so that everything is perfect on their return.

The magic of Kanuhura

At Kanuhura, villa hosts are available 24/7 to meet the needs of their guests. The full villa host team comes from 5 different countries and together, they can speak over 9 different languages. They are there to ensure their guests have seamless and extraordinary holidays in paradise, which sometimes means fulfilling some unusual requests (like getting oil paints and easels from another island). No request is too big or small for Kanuhura’s exceptional villa hosts.

The villa hosts here love their jobs and have some incredible experiences with guests. Some villa hosts have taught their guests’ kids how to ride bikes or have been responsible for arranging special in-villa evenings, taking care of all the small details and surprises to enhance each experience. For many guests at Kanuhura, the villa hosts become their “guardian angels”.

Kanuhura

Talib has two special memories with guests that stand out for him. The first is when he walked a bride down the aisle on her wedding day and the second was when he was given a gift from a guest - a football T-shirt representing his favourite football team. This T-shirt is only worn On special occasions (when those guests return), otherwise, it’s kept safe in a big frame on the wall.

Talib is used to ensuring guests have unforgettable moments in paradise, but in these cases, his guests did that for him. This is the magic of Kanuhura.
