Restaurants in Grand Baie Mauritius

Situated in the north of Mauritius, Grand Baie (or Grand Bay) is one of the most popular tourist areas on the island and for good reason; a sublime beachfront, a myriad of accommodation options, a sensational nightlife and a huge choice of exceptional land- and water-based activities to choose from. Another major highlight? The incredible restaurants in Grand Baie that beautifully showcase the unbelievable flavours of the unique, and utterly delicious, Mauritian cuisine

Grand Baie Mauritius

The local food in Mauritius has been inspired by each of the fascinating cultures that form part of the island’s history and essence. From Indian and Asian influences to African and European, the food here is a delightful smorgasbord of flavours that are hard to forget. If you are staying in the north of the island, then these are the (local and international) restaurants in Grand Baie we highly recommend:

Roots Cafe

One of the most highly rated restaurants in Grande Baie, Roots Cafe serves up a plethora of exceptional dishes for those that are looking to indulge in satisfying Italian, Mediterranean and European fare. Enjoy the understated bohemian decor complete with a tropical flair and enjoy beautifully presented and consistently good food, excellent service and fair prices. Opt for one of the traditional Italian favourites (like their superb spaghetti bolognese or pesto gnocchi), something fresh like their rocket, Parma ham, fig and mozzarella salad or one of their sublime vegetarian dishes (like their ricotta and spinach cannelloni) and finish off with one of their decadent desserts—a meal here is bound to be as memorable as it is delicious. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for a scrumptious breakfast or light lunch.

Domaine

If you are looking for an exceptional local meal then Domaine is one of the best Mauritian restaurants in Grande Baie. Here, travellers can indulge in local specialities (which are marked with a star) at exceptional prices such as the delicious chilli lamb or the turmeric octopus dish. What was once an unknown gem reserved for those-in-the-know is fast becoming a popular spot with locals and tourists alike, so it’s best to arrive there early to secure a spot. It’s an absolutely fabulous place to get an introduction to Mauritian food but it can be a little difficult to find so perhaps consider getting a taxi there and ensure that the driver understands where you are trying to go.

Boulette Ti Kouloir

A trip to Mauritius would be amiss without trying the exceptional local “street food” snacks at this eatery, such as Boulettes (Mauritian dumplings) and plates of tasty Chinese-inspired fried noodles that will leave you wanting seconds. While not really considered one of the actual restaurants in Grand Baie, this snack spot (more of a small hallway) is still definitely worth a visit. The type of eatery that embodies the word ‘authentic’, here you’ll line up with the locals which is always a good sign. The servings of noodles are generous and there’s no shortage of choice when it comes to the Boulettes (you can choose from calamari and fish to chicken, lamb and pork). This is an absolute must!

Saturelle

Rated as one of the top five best restaurants in Grand Baie on TripAdvisor, this sophisticated, fine-dining restaurant situated just off Sunset Boulevard is a great place for epicures to get their fix of exceptional food. Elegant and oftentimes unusual international fusion dishes (such as octopus carpaccio) are created to perfection and served in a charming setting that makes for a perfect meal in paradise. Weekly special menus are offered but it’s best to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

La Rougaille Creole

Another of the fantastic restaurants in Grand Baie, and another located near Sunset Boulevard, this local gem serves exquisite Mauritian food for affordable prices. Bursting with personality, this casual eatery is a great pick for travellers looking to experience an array of exceptional local dishes which range from red snapper in Creole sauce and crab stir-fry to octopus salad, crispy prawns and much more—you’re bound to have your hunger for the local cuisine satisfied. Try one of the signature cocktails with your meal and allow your inner foodie to come out for a really special experience in Mauritius. With exceptional and flavourful dishes, incredible attention to detail, extra touches and excellent service, you can’t go wrong with a meal (or two) at this wonderful restaurant.
There’s no doubt that the restaurants in Grand Baie deliver on flavour and variety, so be sure to explore as many of them as you can and embrace the culinary scene in Mauritius to the full.
