Apart from the stress it causes, cancer is an expensive illness. Some parents even have difficulty paying for public transport to take their child for treatment or a check-up, especially if one of them has had to stop work to look after the youngster.
Not only that. In order to reach the ward, the time it takes and the emotional strain of having to ride in a bus – plus the risk of exposure to infection – are enormous deterrents to embarking on the journey.
Thanks to donations, Suncare has been able to partner with "Link to Life" and arrange for transport. The van used also provides privacy and a sense of safety for the patient, particularly important if he or she is experiencing side effects from treatment.
In one year, we need to spend Rs 500,000 to enable us to make nearly 500 trips and help some 80 children.
