Forbes Traveler picks Le Touessrok among top 400 finest hotels in the world
14 Nov 2008

Forbes Traveler picks Le Touessrok among top 400 finest hotels in the world

The world`s most distinguished travel experts have picked Le Touessrok among top 400 finest hotels for the 2008-2009 Forbes Traveler 400. Forbes Traveler 400 is a rundown of the world`s best hotels, spread across six continents and presented geographically. Because these are world-class hotels that would rank mathematically close to one another, they are not ranked on this list.

“This new accolade is a wonderful present for Le Touessrok which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in November 2008. Let us not forget that the hotel is often acclaimed as one of the best hotels of its type in the world and has won numerous other accolades recently such as the ‘2007 Best Resort Hotel in the World Award’ of British Airways Holidays or the ‘2007 Indian Ocean Leading Golf Resort’ of World Travel Awards and is the ‘Emirates Associate Hotel’ in Mauritius,” comments Joerg Roterberg, General Manager.

As stated by editors of the Forbes Traveler Magazine, “the Forbes Traveler 400 is more than a horse race between the world’s best hotels. It is a valuable resource for trip-planning. Our reviews are comprehensive, up-to-date and as bias-free as we can make them. For every hotel, we reviewed the rooms, service and overall experience, and also presented the particular highlights that define a property. Having a personal butler, for example, isn’t necessary for some travellers; they want to know about the Michelin-starred restaurant or world-class spa.”

Forbes Traveler Magazine set up a board of 79 luxury-travel experts from a wide variety of industries and asked them to rate nearly 800 highly regarded four- and five-star hotels in seven categories. The choice of the panellists was based on the fact that they have stayed in 20 or more 5-star hotels in the past 18 months and that they are not economically affiliated with any of the hotels they would then evaluate.

The list of 800 of the world`s top-ranked hotels was made from a variety of respected sources (brand-new hotels and hotels closed for renovations were excluded) and also allowed for individual nominations beyond the original pool of properties. The magazine then asked its experts to rate each property on seven criteria, namely: Service, Room & Bathroom, Décor, Food & Beverage, Public Areas & Facilities, Sports & Recreation and Location. The survey results determined the world`s top 400 hotels. Forbes Traveler Magazine then assigned the reviews to professional travel writers who visited these properties and did not receive special treatment from the hotels they covered.

The 2008/2009 edition of the Forbes Traveler 400 is available at the following address :

Le Touessrok turns 30

Le Touessrok turns 30

Between history and memories

Le Touessrok has long built its reputation on the memories it has instilled in guests, so much that they often come back to the high spirited hotel of Trou d’Eau Douce, Mauritius. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in November 2008, it is without surprise that Le Touessrok will be partying to the tunes of long loving and lasting memories and of surprises with these ‘repeater’ guests who are engaged in a long love story with the Sun Resorts flagship.

“If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday,” says Pearl Buck. The celebration of this legendary hotel needs some recollection of memories that have instilled a unique atmosphere to Le Touessrok. The exclusive almost home-style hotel of the beginning – with celebrities like legendary singer Jacques Brel and guests who were starting to discover paradise-island Mauritius – gave way to Le Touessrok in 1978.

Touessrok – literally meaning ‘everything is rock’ in French – was seen as a dream hotel offering the possibility to its lucky guests of enjoying the private islands of Ilot Mangénie and Ile aux Cerfs. Between beach relaxation and sceneries really out of this world, Touessrok also marvelled guests with a choice of delicate and traditional seafood which quickly made its reputation.

“To celebrate 30 years of memories, of commitment and of passion, the hotel team has carefully planned a week of events and will give utmost importance to what makes the hotel so special,” explains Joerg Roterberg, General Manager of Le Touessrok.

This commendation will definitely increase the awareness and prestige of Kanuhura on a global basis, especially to the TO and travel agent community, and our efforts in maintaining the highest standards of excellence,” says Alessandro Schenone, General Manager of Kanuhura.

Always working towards excellence, Kanuhura was already placed top of the list according to a 2009 review issued by ‘Leading Small Hotels of the World’ in terms of group competitor analysis. A few months before, Kanuhura was also highly noted by ‘Leading Small Hotels of the World’ following the report of the Mystery Guest inspection. Condé Nast Traveller, major travel magazine, also placed Kanuhura fourth Best Overseas Leisure Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean in its annual Readers’ Travel Awards for 2008.

Kanuhura among the best hotels in the world according to Condé Nast Traveller’s 2009 Gold List

Kanuhura among the best hotels in the world according to Condé Nast Traveller’s 2009 Gold List

Kanuhura, 5 star hideaway island in the Maldives, Indian Ocean and a Sun Resorts property, was recently honoured in the 2009 Condé Nast Traveller’s Gold List, a selection of the best hotels in the world. Kanuhura won recognition as one of the 15 hotels in the world with the ‘Best Leisure Facilities’.

“The range of activities on offer is remarkable, including a comprehensive spa with an aerobics studio, fitness centre, sauna, cold plunge pools and an outdoor pavilion, a dive centre, tennis courts and a swimming pool” states the Condé Nast Traveller review on Kanuhura. The ‘Condé Nast Traveller’s Gold List’ is in fact an annual list made up of a selection of the hotels around the world that have the best rooms, service, food, location, ambience and design, and leisure facilities. “To compile this ultimate guide to the world’s greatest hotels, we have combined our editors’ choices with the highest ranking hotels in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2008,” explains Condé Nast Traveller.

“This is indeed more good news for Kanuhura and Sun Resorts. I am always pleased to see how such an acknowledgment comes in as a token of recognition for the excellent quality of our facilities and services and this has to be credited to all team members at the hotel,” says Alessandro Schenone, General Manager of Kanuhura.

Condé Nast Traveller is a major travel magazine which favours the ‘Truth In Travel’ concept and accepts no travel press trips. This policy has enabled the magazine to become one of the most authoritative and influential travel magazines in the sector. For information, the Readers’ Travel Awards is the choice of the best the travel world has to offer. Kanuhura was ranked fourth Best Overseas Leisure Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean for the 2008 edition. The top 100 overall winners, irrespective of category, rank Kanuhura at the 11th position.

“Formerly under the One&Only umbrella, Kanuhura is now part of Sun Resorts and thankfully it hasn’t lost any of its appeal”, affirms the Condé Nast Traveller review. This is a good appreciation of the whole new positioning of Kanuhura since its take over by Sun Resorts in June 2008. Today, Kanuhura clearly stands out among other hotels of the Maldives – one of the most preferred destinations for upmarket international travellers – as an indigenous and elegant hideaway with a contemporary feel and stylish service. The island boasts unrivalled natural beauty and offers natural aesthetic features with uncompromising five star luxury facilities and services. A ‘Made in Kanuhura’ concept came up to celebrate the locale and to promote survival ethos and dial it up to five star castaway chic. Even the new logo of Kanuhura resumes this concept: made of braided palm leaves.

Le Touessrok wins Silver Award for Best Overseas Incentive Hotel

Le Touessrok has been awarded the Silver Award for ‘Best Overseas Incentive Hotel’ in 2009. This Award, which is run by the Conference & Incentive Travel magazine, is given in recognition of how well Le Touessrok is perceived by the conference and incentive market in the United Kingdom and the groups that were hosted at the hotel.

Conference & Incentive Travel Magazine is a well known publication in the United Kingdom and its annual C&IT Hot List celebrates the best UK and overseas venues, destinations and suppliers in the events industry, as voted for by Conference & Incentive Travel magazine’s readers. “Mauritius, the quintessential incentive destination, is peppered with luxury hotels, but when Mercedes-Benz turned to DBMT to deliver an event for its elite sales club, Le Touessrok was chosen as host venue. “We are very proud of the accolade given to our hotel by Conference & Incentive Travel Magazine. When we see that other award winners are the prestigious ‘Hotel Arts’ in Barcelona which won the Gold award and ‘Atlantis Dubai’ which won the Bronze award, we feel that Le Touessrok can proudly boast of being one of the best hotel conference and incentive destinations in the world,” says Jean François Richard, Sales & Marketing Manager of Le Touessrok.
